According to Celtic scholars Caitlin and John Matthews, “Inspiration (imbas in Ireland, awen in Britain) was the supreme preoccupation of Celtic poets, especially among those who had inherited the ancient prophetic and visionary arts of the ovate or faith—probably the earliest form of Celtic shaman” (Matthews and Matthews 1994, 223). Awen means “blowing, breath, wind,” as in for inspiration. It refers to poetic inspiration—the power of words. Focus on the magic of your very breath and words as you speak. Take advantage of windy days and whisper your wish upon the breeze. You can also speak your goal to a leaf or small feather and release it. Use this chant to complete your spell:

With the wind I send my will

upon the air and breeze—

help me find success I seek

and reach my goal with ease.
